What went wrong?

I watched a video on youtube from some college professor. He was doing candling. He mentioned several times to turn the eggs. I always thought you shouldn't turn them. Now I'm wondering what's right?

Most people here at BYC turrn their eggs, I have an auto-turner that turns the eggs every two hours, for what I have read here some people do it three times a day. Do a search here to see how often it is recommended.

I have the same bator started with 14 eggs 10 stopped development today is day 24 i candled the last 4 and saw movement in all 4 any ideas on how long i should wait

I have the same incubator you have. I wondered about adding some styrofoam around it but worried about ventilation. Looks like you took all that into consideration, and if 17 hatched, I think that's pretty good, or at least indicates you are doing something right.
My particular model came with the turner, but I would bet you would be able to add one, if interested.
I do not trust the hygrometer on the unit, it is off and ruined my first hatch (got too much humidity but the meter on the unit wasn't increasing nearly as much as it actually was) but the thermometer seems accurate on mine.

Was this your first batch in that incubator?

Give it a couple more days. Trust me, I took mine out too soon, did eggtopsies and think some may have made it if I had waited... :(

This was my second try with this incubator. The first time was a disater only three chicks hatched. To keep the temperature constant, I used the styrofoam container it came in. I added a couple of holes on the styrofoam to match the vent holes in the incubator.

I may give that a try if I see fluctuations. I have 14 duck eggs and 4 turkey eggs in mine right now and temp seems to be consistent. Day 3.

One more thing... Does your styrofoam go all the way down to the table all the way around? I wonder if the water overflow holes around the outer edge also aid in ventilation/circulation? I didn't want to block off underneath the unit. Thoughts?

I lifted the incubator on 1x2 lumber, and placed it ontop of a plastic table just in case I overfilled the chambers. I also made additional holes so they would match the vents.yes the styrofoam is a solid piece it goes all around the lower section of the incubator

Ok thank you. I've also considered extra vent holes that I can plug or release as needed.
Sorry... I'm just glad to see someone else using this incubator lol
