What were your worst mistakes when you first started?

This is my black Australorp "pullet". Paid extra for 3 black Australorp pullets and NOT straight run. I got 1 pullet, 1 black sex link pullet, and Randy. He is an Australorp-but he IS a heView attachment 2305361
The 2 straight run new Hampshire's were both pullets.
Go figure.

I'm beginning to think when they sex the pullets the just chuck all the roos in the straight run bin and then toss in a few pullets. My neighbor used to get his hens from a hatchery...I think Murray Mcmurray...anyways he ordered PULLETS one time and they all turned out to be roos. When he called to complain they just gave him 30% off his next order. Didn't even offer him a refund.

Coop coop coop! Working on saving up for a walk in coop that I can keep fans in for my roasted Texas chickens! It gets so hot here in the summer and keeping hens cool is a challenge when you have an itty bitty coop. I had to rig an AC tent for my hens with doggie flaps so they could excape the temp. Silly I know but they were suffering and I could not bring them in.

Hehehe, that would be really funny. Or... He decided to throw in the cockerels instead of pullets? Is it also possible that the guy who ordered them accidently ordered cockerels?

No mistake in the order. Even said Pullets on his receipt. Had to be their mistake.

Also I didn't realise how much my husband would hate my chicken chatter every evening, relaying in detail, my day with the girls

Guess what Little did?? She caught a mouse!
And Lark caught a small frog!
And they all love Japanese Beetles!
And, and, and...
Thank goodness hubby is patient. He IS the one who said, "I think you should get chickens." Sometimes I remind him of that.
