Just found this in my nesting box

Are your girls just starting to lay? They need a little time to work out the kinks. It likely had the internal membrane and if that was especially thin then the hay in your nest box could have pierced it.

Odd that the yolk wasn't ruptured/eaten.
Guessing there was no membrane.

They'll get everything squared away, I had one just like that when my pullets started laying. Sometimes the membrane can be normal but be rubbery because it's missing the hard shell on the outside. Also ok provided it's not the norm.
