They say the first egg costs thousands of dollars and after that they're free.

Egg sales just about covers feed for all the birds(except during molt). So our eggs and meat are free.
I've made a profit on occasion selling birds.
I'm starting to sell fertile eggs when I hope I'll make a few dollars.

Haven't sold any yet....just give away. But when I do get enough to start selling I will have a "chicken jar" for them.

Wait I was just at Murray McMurray the other day. For $2 you can get another chick many varieties available. Then you'd make more money later, of course with the minimum chick order you'd have to get a few others but that's Chicken math!!
