What will they be called??

I have a Holland Lop buck, and he bred my Mini Lop Doe... I have a litter of kits that were born today... what will they be called???? Mini Holland Lops????? I know there is a name for them out there somewhere...lol.

Technically, they are lop mixes, or maybe mixed lops. If you wanted to get fancy, I suppose you could call them "melange lops" (the question is, could you pronounce it?!

) Or if you want to be specific, you could call them Holland/Mini Lop mixes. If you do it the other way, people are going to expect them to be even smaller than Hollands, which are confusing to people anyway because the very name "Mini Lop" makes them think that it's the smallest lop breed. Around here, "Mini Lop" has become such a catch-all term, anything with ears that don't go up (or don't go up all the time) gets called a mini lop. I've seen some 10 pound rabbits that were sold as mini lops, and some 5 pound so-called Dwarfs!

At least your animals have the same type, even if they aren't the same breed. Your babies should have nice, blocky lop heads, and there should be no question about their ears going down. Size-wise, I'm thinking they'll probably finish up around 5 pounds. I bet they're cute!

I think I will just call them what they are.... Holland/Mini Lops. Would be a lot easier.


She had 5 babies, so I am excited to see what they look like when they get a little older.
