I agree with pandpaw, parror beak will not grow back, he could have been attacked by another bird ..parrot are not fowls.
At one time I wanted to breed cockatoos but when I did my reasch, I will never breed them, if the name or female get into a fight they will either snap the other leg right off, or crush the beak, I have seen a phorlto of one with out a beak, and a vet made a fake one so she can eat. It don't take long it could alittle tiff and wham major damaged. A cockatoo has 2000 pound of power with there beak it takes on snap.
as for beak and rfeather sickness please don't add another bird, use a mirror they will love it. If you want a finliy answer take him to a vet, get the vet to do a blood work, just let them know what you thank your bird has, so other birds are not at risk of getting it. Even in the vet office, warn them like I said before this is a very bad sickness ..!!!!
I have a baby teil, she came out of a very small egg, smaller then what teils lays, me being me. I will do what ever to keep them alive, this baby had chance, we named her Beaker, she weighs 50 grams at her age she should be at 80 to 90 grams, I am feeding her five times a day 6 to 7 cc of food she has no feathers on her crop, (that can cause slow crop to sour crop) her beak lol what beak, its very stubbed its like she has no beak, but if you look real good yes she has a beak, her age is three months old, she should be weaned. But if it takes me to feed her every day I WILL for the rest of her life. She is full of happiness,
but in your case its not the sickness, it does look like a. Bird took a bite out of the beak. But please get blood work done by a vet (avain) vet only some vets do birds.
But don't add another bird unless the blood workis good. Another thing if you bring a bird, like a budge, it does not mean that they will like each other, budges can get very mean to the point of killing the other bird, that's wither good point in getting a mirror.
Love birds can get mean and bite toes off, teils can get hurt by your bird biting toes off.

He was kept in his own cage when he had a friend, not in the same one as his friend, and anyway all his friends were damaged reject birds. None of them had a real chance at a normal life. They were cripples, severely ill, etc.... All rejects in their own ways.

Regarding a mirror... He's had a few, has one now. Never pays it any attention, never has. He loves his swing however. He's a decade old, he's condemned to a lonely life, there's no point paying a vet to do bloodwork on an old budgie who won't be accepted by others no matter what the bloodwork shows. Never mind the fact that I wouldn't subject him to that at his age.

Regarding a vet... Can't afford that. The very few times I've had to bring any animal to the vet's, it was a monumental waste of time and money, distressing the living daylights out of the animals for absolutely no good reason. We didn't eat properly so a vet could tell me what I already knew, and not help at all. The internet's a better vet! Maybe you've got great, highly educated, dedicated vets where you are; I do know they exist; in which case, great for you and your animals. Not the case for me.

I am so lucky to have a vet (avain) she is the best. Sometimes she will not charge on some of the things she does, or she will not charge for a office visit. Her love for parrot shows, and she has saved many if my feather freinds.
As for your freinds, you are right, put two cages next to each other, that's a good ideal.

Yeah well it is not definite that I would breed budgies I just thought it could be a cool thing to do maybe.
But hopefully soon I will get one of my parents to take me to that pet store so I can buy my bird

@ladybirdb12: the best vets and owners are doing what they're doing for love of the animal. Good to hear of your kind avian vet. We usually take in the hopeless animals, it's amazing how many of them are able to survive and thrive with a bit of TLC.

@reformed: Best wishes with that. If you're the kind of person who takes in and does well with damaged or rejected animals, you can probably get a bird for free or very cheap, if you ask, because a lot of breeders have at least one bird that's not going to make it without special care... In my experience the animals that have had to struggle to live are often the smartest and most loving. They reward you most plentifully with love for giving them a chance.

I was just hoping to by a bird from the pet store in the next town.
Is it a law in California that the birds they sell in pet stores have to have identity bands on their leg?
Please tell me if you know

Huh well that's not such good news for me, but I do remember that one of my older siblings did get a budgie from this store and he did have a band on his leg, so I bet that they do have them on their birds still.

Do you have a particular concern regarding legbands? Or are you just worried about breaking the law somehow? I've considered leg-banding my flock of chooks for the sake of not having to go through my animal journals/records to find birthdates, significant events, parentage info, and other info. Usually I remember it all, but sometimes forget temporarily, and would prefer to not have to look it up. I think the budgie breeders in many countries leg-band their birds with similar info, hatch-date, parentage, etc...

Also, I would venture to say, you should band your future pet, so if it goes for an unauthorized flight and gets lost, you can get it back easily if it's found befre it's killed. It would save so many birds and their owners anguish and loss if all birds were legbanded with a valid phone number or registration. Virtually every week in every newspaper, someone reports at least one lost or found ownerless pet bird. Many of those who find lost pet birds blame the owner for their carelessness and never even advertise the fact that the bird was found; so the bird never goes back to its original owner, who must presume it dead.

Well it does not matter now because I got him

He is beautiful! He has a green breast yellow face and a blueish tail
I got him to day several hours ago he is in his cage looking around on his perch and squealing and walking on it

But he does not have a band on his leg but he is young the clerk at the store said that all the budgies were just a few months old and he still has black and white bars going down his back so I know for sure
