What would happen if you let your ducks go out in the wild?

Quote:

Those were the saddest and most awful things I had seen in a while, and I work in an ICU and have also worked as an ER nurse in the busiest trauma ER in the state! PLEASE! if you have any compassion in you at all, don't dump your ducks!

Thank you fowltemptress!

Thank you for posting that...while graphic and heartbreaking to see, it is a worthy note on discarding pets and domesticated animals.

Thank you all for the responses.

Fowltemptress~ thank you for the link that is a great reference that everyone should see if they are thinking of releasing ducks.

redhen~ I don't have any intention of letting them go out in the wild.
I wanted some reassurance that I was right to say they wouldn't be able to make it.

From reading what people on here say and looking into it more domestic ducks can't fly that well because they get to heavy for there wings. Along with other things I really didn't think they could make it. My hubby was thinking that they would be happier out in the wild instead of caged up. I told him they were different then wild ducks that we see out in the ponds, lakes, and the ones we hunt every year.

Don't domestic ducks try to go back to where they were raised?

These ducks have had a tuff begining of life before we got them, the last thing I want to do is make it harder for them.
These poor little ducks were hatched with people that just wanted to make a quick buck, then to people that did an impulse buy and brought them home to stay in a bathtub in a bathroom for there little toddler feeding them hotdog buns.

Then they came into our care and they have made strides! Eating great, no longer pucking, not staggering after swimming, not terrified of people, actualy running up to eat out of your hand. They have grown on us. If we were ever to give them up then we have a friend with a very large farm that keeps all kinds of animals that we would give them to first or put them in the "freezer".

If I had a good body of water, I would get ducks...they are pretty harmless and easy to keep.

I think you have enough stuff to show hubby but you can add that they will be good at removing bugs from your garden without scratching everything up like a chicken would. Just a thought....

Beekissed~ I think that I do to. He is really excited for our chickens that we are getting this week and I told him they will all get along anyways. Just two more birds.

I would rampage over to your house and crush you with my giant lizard feet

Crickett~ they have a kiddy pool and a very large pond they can swim in.

Wifezilla~ That would scare me enough to never let them out of my sight. LOL

ExpLo721~ I am not going to let them go out in the wild. I want to keep them. I wanted some info to back up my claim they wouldn't do well out in the wild.
