so yesterday my dad threw out the turkey leftovers for the animals, and this morning we saw turkey vulters in our yard, lol, and so I looked around where they were eating (the same place the turkey remains were) and to my shock and surprise there was a little dead raccoon it had been dead at least 2-3 days and the area around the butt had been eaten and there were flys and maggots, this could have been the same raccon that was in our house. but what killed it? did it die a natural death? it was pretty close to our house, the possible things to kill it are: fox, another racoon, possum?,or even a cat?

Rabies, distemper- if it was in your house, I hope no one came in contact with it or any bodily secretions.

Some dogs are very adept at killing them. A large dog either bites it hard and crunches the bones, or shakes it to death. Could have been either way since you said the coon was small.
I would imagine rats or possums chewed on it's butt after it was dead.

You think it was dead for 2-3 days????? so it must have already been there when you threw out the turkey leftovers?? Unless something dragged it up (again, possibly a dog). I would have thought it was attracted to the leftovers and got killed by a larger scavenger who wanted the leftovers more than the coon did.

The area around the butt sounds like a feline. Perhaps a bobcat or cougar?

It is also possible that the area that was eaten, was eaten by scavengers and that the racoon simply died of sickness.

Call animal control and tell them you think a coon died of rabies. They will come out for that boby and test it. That way you will know if you need to clean that area.
