What would the death rate be for 16 ordered chicks?

Thank you Uzuri for the reply......maybe 10 of each is more reasonable, ill give you the wifes phone number so you can tell her your an expert and made that recommendation, she never believes me anymore !! LOL!!!

I got a total of 32 chicks from Murray McMurray and so far (2 weeks since arrival) haven't lost any. We thought one was a goner we they got here, but some TLC and he's doing great

I ordered 16 EE's from Mt Healthy. They sent 18. All are doing very well. They almost jumped out of the box when I opened it. It was very warm in the box.
I am very impressed with the folks from there. My EE's came all the way from OH to here in AL. They arrived overnight.

Here is a picture of how they were sent.

what kind of ventilation did they have in the box and I am assuming there was a warmer in the box.

It has been very cold here. Especially for AL. We have had several snows, and 20 degree weather. I almost changed my order to ship at another time. I am glad I did the order.

THe box was very warm inside. The top had holes in it for ventilation. I didn't notice a heating pad.Might have had one and I didn't notice. It looked like the bottom of the box was lined with foam. Then they put some sort of stiff foam in a circle. The hay in there formed a sort of nest. It was simple, but effective. When I put my hand in I could feel the heat.

I have checked on the little fluff balls a minute ago. All still doing fine. All VERY active.

I ordered several years ago from McMurry. It was the same type of chicks..EE's. The chicks , as far as I remember, arrived ok. HOwever, it took them a lot longer to recover from the stress of the trip. It took about 2 days for them to appear as lively as the chicks I just ordered. Perhaps because they werein the mail longer. I think it took them 3 days to get here. At that time, I ordered 25 in April. They sent 25 plus an extra chick that turned out to be a Polish. It was cute, but had to rehome because other chicks picked on it.

This time, I wanted to order fewer chicks. I am glad I did. I will still end up finding homes for the ones I don't want to keep, but the amount is a little closer to what I wanted. Also, I like the fact the chicks arrived in such good condition. Mt Healthy is way off in OH, but it only took a day to get here. I think the shorter time in transit made a big difference.

I orderd my 17 JG's Last Tuesday. They shipped This Tuesday at 1845. Arrived here wednesday at 1030am less then 24 hours in transit. I love Ideal. packed very well! I do live in Texas but I think this is still just amazingly fast!!!!

Good Luck and God Bless!

I picked mine up at the P.O. (they were from ideal ofc). But, I think its mostly about where you live. I've heard of people having the delivery guys grab the chicks and deliver them(which tends to cause huge casualties) so you might want to call ahead to make sure you know what their policy is on live chicks. Most P.O's wont send them out with the deliveries and will call you /early/ morning to come get your migraine inducers before they drive them nuts. With mine they not only called once but /twice/ just to make sure I was getting them out of their hair
