Did you incubate him? Incubating him would actually up the chances of him being a rooster, because if you get hem form the store they sex them for you.

Not all chicks in stores are sexed. Bantams are usually not.

I don't know much about show quality chickens, but I do know that you can look up some of the most basic stuff. Comb type and leg color matter. So do feathered feet, muff/beard, crest, extra toe, frizzled or silkied feathers, and so forth: be sure the bird has what it should have, and does not have what it should not have.
