Cool roost!
Ditto Dat^^^I’d lower the nest boxes... just attach them to the lower board, instead of the middle board.
Ditto Dat^^^ Big Time!I would reinforce that chicken wire with welded wire.
Bigger diameter branches would be better, attached to braces parallel to the back wall (12" away from wall) would be more efficient. Corner roosts reduce area of usable roost.View attachment 1992092 Here is a better photo of the roost, it was kind of hidden in the other photos.
About 6:30am dawn is just breaking and I head out to the coop with their feeders. I hang 2 feeders in the run, hang another in the rooster bachelor pad, then open the pop door. Then I leave the run and go into the coop. There I scoop poop as Matilda comes back in to say good morning and let me know she will be giving me an egg very soon. By the time I head back to the house it is fully daylight. You have an hour and a half of daylight by 8am??? The sun is barely coming up by then here.![]()
Thank you! I designed ( read that “demanded things be done the way I wanted”) and supervised the building of the coop. Blueprints were in my head and interpreted by my son in law as he built it. It took 8 months because his back is in such bad shape.I LOVE your coop! And I agree that the roost situation needs to change, the poop boards looks like a great idea. Thank you!
Well, not necessarily....my way isn't the only way that works. If @aart says you need to do something then just do it.
Apologies to OP for getting off the rails here...About 6:30am dawn is just breaking and I head out to the coop with their feeders. According to my weather site sunrise is currently 7:14 and sunset 4:16. I guess I’m going by dawn not by sunrise. I figure if they have enough light to see they should be up.Apologies to OP for getting off the rails here...
I don't know what I was thinking. The latitude and where we are on the time zone effects it, not just time of year. So when does your sun set?
