What would you do? Broken up shipped eggs

I think a sticky should be placed at the top of the forum showing examples of good packing for egg shippment. I know you can search the forum and find numerous examples of how people pack their eggs, maybe these examples should all be placed in one sticky post where they are easy to find.

Personally, I dont buy shipped eggs. I much prefer to drive to pick them up, and have driven several hundred miles for just a few eggs. Usually tho when I drive its to pick up several dozen eggs of the breed I am looking for. There is a breed in Washington State I am wanting and I will probably have to have those eggs shipped if I get any. Putting the shoe on the other foot, I much prefer someone drives to my place to pickup the eggs they are buying, but I also realize this isnt always a practical solution for everybody, therefore I do ship eggs. One practice I do is I never remove the money from paypal until the eggs I have shipped have been received by the buyer. This way they can inspect the eggs and make sure I havent shipped a mess in a box. If at that time they are satisfied with shipping, I will withdraw their payment. I feel this does a couple of things for the buyer, it shows them I am interested in them being satisfied with their purchase, and in the event that they are not satisfied, and I cant satisfy them, I am only out shipping and they are out nothing. Paypal cant charge me a fee and the buyer isnt charged a fee if I have to refund their money. Of course I realize there are some people out there that would take advantage by removeing their money after I have shipped the eggs, but I wouldnt hesitate to announce their names publicly on the internet if they did so. I try to be fair and honest and expect to be treated the same, but I can be a grouchy old bear if the situation warrants the need.

I'm just extremely blessed I guess.

I've had eggs shipped from MD (Peachick), SC (DipsyDoodleDoo), GA(bargain), TX (pasofinofarm), WA (Pips&Peeps) and WI (Wayne Meredith) and I've never gotten a broken egg.

I've had a small number in those shipments that were scrambled, but never ever a chip or break.

I've also learned that you just don't usually hatch much over 60% of shipped eggs.

I would approach the seller first and see if they would send you replacements in a box that was packed better. If they don't help, I would then take it to ebay and have them deal with the seller. They usually guarantee satisfaction.

I've had some mixed dealings with ebay. One seller who packs her eggs well. I still invariably have one or two broken eggs. She replaces them promptly and I'm always pleased. Another one never returned my emails about one lousy broken egg. If worse comes to worst, dispute it through ebay and paypal. Good luck!

well after the pretty nice msg I wrote the seller and they wrote back just saying a refund was issued thru paypal so all went well. I didnt demand anything, kind of left it up as a option what they wanted to do with no threats or nothing of the sort and that was the msg I received. I still want more Silkie eggs though

my D'Uccles hatched great but out of the 6 silkie eggs I got from another seller only one made it to hatching then died while it was hatching

. I ran ads for months on craigslist and BYC here saying I would travel any where about 1 1/2 hrs around my area and no one responded, I hounded the rest of the people who were selling babies of the breeds I wanted but they all responded back saying they had no hatching eggs for sale so I had to go back to getting shipped eggs. The eggs I got from a great BYCr on here I had shipped but only from 3 hrs away and so far I now have 9 out 12 D'Uccle eggs hatched so I am very happy

I can vouch for the excellent packing that kelar does! I just received an auction of eggs from her and they were amazingly well packed. My husband picked them up at the PO and took pics to send me as he opened them. They were so well packed that it took him almost 30 minutes to open them! I only hope that if I ever buy eggs from anyone else and get them shipped, that they are packed as well as kelar packs hers!

thanks Kelar, I know how much that stuff cost if its actually used-I dont have a problem paying for materials making sure my eggs have a chance, I have never left neg feedback to anyone on eggs I usually do the same as you but in this case I just felt the eggs were already pre damaged and then shipped, but the ebayer refunded me the day I wrote them so all is well-I almost feel bad about it but I shouldnt. Now Im searching to buy another batch of Silkie eggs since my girls want some buddies. Think I will stick with BYCrs since I have great hatches out of their eggs and I had really bad hatches out of my last 2 batches of ebay eggs and they were all in the bator together so Im pretty sure it wasnt my bators fault-I know that things happen to shipped eggs etc but it seems like everyone on here really cares about what they sell-still I left no one neg feedback, I left their feedback when I opened the box and saw whole well packed eggs
