what would you do with these marans eggs?

Is this roo a blue birchen? I do know (and Bev believes this as well) that they key to dark egg color is to start with a roo hatched from a very dark egg. So, I would THINK that if you crossed this boy over the pullets from those light eggs, you'd probably end up with a "4" egg, which is acceptable within the Marans breed. Then, as stated, hatch only the darkest eggs and after a few short years, you should be where you want to be for color.

I found the "deleat multiple messages" button...lol

And I got him in a hatch from Bev And when I emailed her a pic of him and she said that while she was gone at somepoint her hubby did not mark the eggs correctly and he is probly a mix of wheaten, BC and of course blue from one of them. His hackles are yellow and I think the burchens are white? but I just love him and have not seen anymore like him but Id love to duplicate the color.

Oh... that msut be new

Sorry that sucks. They are so light that I wouldn't even involve them in a breeding project, you're setting yourself up for more work than necessary. I have three Cuckoos coming on three years old that are laying a lot darker still. I'd hatch them and sell them, or just keep them for layers.

Question, did the auction show a picture of the eggs? If so and these are nothing like what was showed, then I would be ticked, and either ask for refund, and/or new set of eggs, if there was no picture, then I would be upset with myself for not asking the How dark are thier eggs question. Either way I would go ahead and hatch them, and keep them around as Layers, most people enjoy getting brown eggs, the dark ones are just for breeders to brag about anyway. They all taste like eggs to me. On that note, if I was breeding to get a True Marans Color, I would not use those hens in a breeding program because you are already starting with known light coloring from that side.

You have been cheated. These are not Marans eggs by ant stretch of the imagination. Get your money back or have the seller barred for fraud.

I've seen the auction that silver won, and nowhere in the description did it say that the eggs were themselves dark, only that the marans were known for dark egg color.

Also, if more time had been taken to check the feedback, only the dark egg color from that seller was seen in Black Copper and Cuckoo eggs. The others were simply "Great shipping! No eggs broken!" etc.

Yes that was my fault not to check closser. I did not expect Spectacular but I expected marans. I guess I will just have some pretty splash hens in my mixed flock, glad I did not spend much.

I do know it was my own fault I could have taken more time and asked for pics of the eggs but I did not. I was just venting Im not trying to put the blame on anyone else for my mistake.
Just tring to figure what Im going to do with them.

I should be geting some "real" cuckoo eggs from a member here and she has posted pics of her eggs before and so Im sure they will be good, Ill just have a generation to breed the barred out.

Anyway they will still be adorable little fuzzy butts in a few weeks.

As someone has already said, Marans eggs need to be at least a 4 on the Marans egg color chart. Here is that chart for you to compare your eggs to
