What would you feed if you couldn't buy feed?

We take the fillets off, for our consumption. The rest goes to the chickens in one whole piece.

Could be if you deep-fried them first you would like them better?

At the very least they would be healthier then food from the golden arches!!! As long as you did not soak them in ammonia first though

I've been eyeing road kill, lately... I've come to the realization, that if the vultures haven't gotten to it, it's probably fresh enough to feed to the chickens, or the dog, even if you had to cook it.

I just catch it out of creek and throw it straight to them. It is like watching a football game seeing them take it from each other and run. These are small fish though. Horny heads, Some areas call them chub.

We boil the "junk" fish and feed it to them weekly, husband loves to fish, the chickens pick it clean, bones and skin left. I get free mash from the local brewery they love it, and I grow sprouts year round in big jars, its cheap and very healthy for us and them, high in calcium and aminos, mug beans, clover, its a way to get fresh greens into them in the long winters. I grow lots of pumkins and squash for them, it keeps them entertained and fed on long winter days.

If no one's mentioned it yet (I wish I had time to read the whole thread!): Amaranth & quinoa are grains that have a huge amount of protein, and the amaranth greens are edible, too. If we can eat it, so can the chooks!
