What would your dream kitchen have....

I would just like a big old farmhouse kitchen, with one of those huge antique tables. You know, the kind the family sits down to meals at (sigh, though there are just two of us most of the time and conflicting schedules), play board games, have coffee etc.
I would like it to be nice and bright.

I like all of those ideas. I'd want my pantry to be a sizable walk-in room. I'd want a covered porch off the back of the kitchen
with a good place to store wood for the wood stove, plus a cooktop in the countertop. Double wall ovens.

I'd want practical countertop surfaces, perhaps stainless, something not damaged by hot items. The dishwasher would be raised
so as not to require bending. Below the counters there would be no cabinet doors, only large drawers, including one for all my iron ware.
I have this drawer now -- I don't like dusting pots and pans left hanging out.

Large shallow refrigerator (without freezer) and large shallow freezer.

Things I have now and would want to keep: skylights, cookbook shelves at the ends of the island, lower marble section for dough work, deep sink in island for vegetables, deep drawers for pots and Pyrex, spice drawers, pan racks.

My husband and I are very, very, v-e-r-y slowly remodeling our house. I already have the rough cedar wainscoting and the paint color I've always wanted, and the dishwasher. Eventually there will be no upper cabinets, just open shelving, and butcher block and wooden countertops. And we're still going back and forth on ceramic tile, porcelain tile, or wood for the floor. If we choose wood, it will be handmade wide planks. The only thing we don't have room for is a pantry. We may be able to squeeze it in somewhere, but it doesn't seem likely.

:droolMy DREAM/IDEAL kitchen would have a huge bay window, with a herb garden, and plenty of fresh veggies growing too. Then, a countertop grill, a deep freeze(chest) a glass faced cabinet system, so we could see all my pretties in those cabinets.

I don't have a dishwasher because DH don't think I need one... But one day I will have one

Btw, I LOVE that you are a fellow Conservative Christian, and will "serve the house of the Lord forever." I see you said you wear a cap. What denomination are you? I'm from Lancaster County, Pa., where we have lot's of Amish, and Mennonites.
Now, to my dream kitchen---we just remodeled ours, and I DO have a magnetic knife block. My husband's idea. LOVE IT! What I don't have, but wish I had thought about, is a double oven, and a pot filler.
We took an old dresser (on legs) that has 2 large drawers and 1 small one, took the top off, and put a propane cooktop on top. The top narrow drawer holds my wooden spoons, spatulas, anything that I need while cooking. The 2nd drawer holds my serving bowls, pot lids, and some of my more-used cookbooks. Oh, and some empty egg cartons ;o) The bottom drawer holds my tea towels, hot pads, rolling pin, and a few other small items.
THEN, where the OLD stove was, I put another old dresser similar to the other one, and put granite over top. Now I have a continuous horseshoe- shaped black granite countertop. The narrow top drawer holds my baking sheets, cooling racks, and cutting boards. The next drawer down holds all my mixing bowls, casseroles, Pyrex, etc. The 3rd drawer holds my bread pans, cake pans, angelfood cake pan, springform pan, etc. My double sink is a mix of granite and composite. It is also black, so it recedes, and doesn't "pop" out at you.
My backsplash is terra cotta-colored 4" tiles with chicken/rooster tiles interspersed randomly throughout. The chicken/rooster tiles are actually coasters that I had collected and we took the backs off. There is a chicken/rooster mural above the old dresser. Everything is highlighted by under the counter lighting. Above the cupboards I have a chicken/rooster collection that my husband highlighted with rope lighting. My husband did all the work, I did the designing. It really turned out beautifully. I'm NOT a chicken fanatic
