Btw, I LOVE that you are a fellow Conservative Christian, and will "serve the house of the Lord forever." I see you said you wear a cap. What denomination are you? I'm from Lancaster County, Pa., where we have lot's of Amish, and Mennonites.
Now, to my dream kitchen---we just remodeled ours, and I DO have a magnetic knife block. My husband's idea. LOVE IT! What I don't have, but wish I had thought about, is a double oven, and a pot filler.
We took an old dresser (on legs) that has 2 large drawers and 1 small one, took the top off, and put a propane cooktop on top. The top narrow drawer holds my wooden spoons, spatulas, anything that I need while cooking. The 2nd drawer holds my serving bowls, pot lids, and some of my more-used cookbooks. Oh, and some empty egg cartons ;o) The bottom drawer holds my tea towels, hot pads, rolling pin, and a few other small items.
THEN, where the OLD stove was, I put another old dresser similar to the other one, and put granite over top. Now I have a continuous horseshoe- shaped black granite countertop. The narrow top drawer holds my baking sheets, cooling racks, and cutting boards. The next drawer down holds all my mixing bowls, casseroles, Pyrex, etc. The 3rd drawer holds my bread pans, cake pans, angelfood cake pan, springform pan, etc. My double sink is a mix of granite and composite. It is also black, so it recedes, and doesn't "pop" out at you.
My backsplash is terra cotta-colored 4" tiles with chicken/rooster tiles interspersed randomly throughout. The chicken/rooster tiles are actually coasters that I had collected and we took the backs off. There is a chicken/rooster mural above the old dresser. Everything is highlighted by under the counter lighting. Above the cupboards I have a chicken/rooster collection that my husband highlighted with rope lighting. My husband did all the work, I did the designing. It really turned out beautifully. I'm NOT a chicken fanatic
