I am bad about calling them snakes too It is only when I get that funny look people give you (are there really snakebirds out there "look"), that I back up and say the name right. I also was bad , for years, about calling D'uccle "Decukkle" instead of saying the name right. It is the Redneck in me I guess.

It is pronounced dew-clay. My youngest calls them Dookeys.......

My thumb is in there because on the smallest gun the slide shot back and cut me deeply. It's a badge of honor and a lesson learned.

OUCHIES Annie Oakley!!
My first was a huge shotgun. DH thought it funny when it almost knocked me to the ground........... Me and the guy pulling the clay pidgons.... not so much Needless to say it looked like I had an Elephant footprint on my shoulder for a month

Thanks Almond. My friend who took me has really small hands to match her tiny body; so she has a sub compact and a compact. The compact gun I wrapped my left thumb around my shootin' hand and WHAM! sucker cut me deep. It was so fun though. I'd never handled a gun at all before (though my dad had them). I have a great respect and fear for guns. There were others at the range who had ridiculous weapons, like a small bullet wouldn't make you go "dagnabit, I'm shot!"
