Wow, Ive missed sooo much on this thread, I'm never going to catch up!

I'm going to try to get this posted before BYC logs me out AGAIN or my laptop shuts itself down AGAIN!

Look what hatched over the weekend for my son's birthday! Thank you Laurie

for helping to make my son's birthday party hatch a success!


Out of 30 eggs set, 16 made it to lockdown and 12 hatched. We got 10 Black Copper Marans

, 1 Blue Copper Marans

(front and center), and 1 mystery chick! I'm guessing it is Welsummer x BCM? Welsummers don't have feathered legs do they? Whatever it is, it was the first to hatch and is my son's favorite.

Is anyone else experiencing an egg drought? I got one egg yesterday. ONE!!

From 20 laying hens! I know a few are starting to molt so I'm not holding it against them, but I'm convinced the rest are just being lazy. I started adding vitamins/electrolytes yesterday in hopes that it will help, but I'm just at a loss. I don't have any sick birds. Could it be the heat??

BIRTHDAY PARTY HATCH?! That's a GREAT idea!! Did you time it for the party? How would I do that? Mine ALWAYS seem to hatch overnight. I really like that idea!

Now if the 2 auto turners are not full 82 thenI will really panic.
This week I'm going to set everything I can get my hands on. I have a 4-h kid who wants to grow them out and sell Them at the fall swaps. Then I swear I'm unplugging the bator.

Unplugging?! Really?? They can be unplugged?? How do you do that???

When we were in California it slowed in November thn picked up in Feb.

. But those predators are eating chickens year round out there and I was replacing chickens year round. I would get far more calls then I had chickens to offer.

See, that's why I hesitate to free range. I don't want to keep replacing a flock of 100% English Orps, especially not the chocolates! I'd love to let them roam a bit, but everyone in the area who does says they also replace the flock all the time.

Does anyone know how much a 2.5 month old Mini Nubian Weathered goat should be priced at. Any help would be great.
The lady told me $150 is what she sells them for.
