Hi everyone- I just wanted to say I know 3 people owe me hatching eggs but I am not so sure I am going to collect them.
I just went out to the brooder to put the chicks in the outside pen and half of them were dead, the survivors don't look like they will be alive much longer. I really don't want to tell my byc friend who's eggs they hatched from... I have been sending her pics every week and keeping her updated.
Last night we ran out of chicken food so we gave them a piece of bread and thats the only thing I can think that killed them. They were 3 weeks old. I am so mad at myself.
This week my quail eggs were supposed to hatch and none did.
Last week my bantam hen was killed by something.
A couple weeks before that my only orloff died of cocci.
I am just feeling like I don't really deserve to have chickens now. My 25 chickens that are 20 weeks now all were so healthy, no complications. Now all of a sudden I have all these chicken deaths and I just feel like I am doing something wrong.
Gosh, I'm so sorry!

I'm sorry that just sucks. I hate it when I lose chicks or chickens without knowing why. Don't get down on yourself just keep loving those chickens. :D

I know things seem really bad now but understand it has happened to all of us to some extent. Sometime illness, varmits, and sometimes we never figure out what went wrong.
Wanted to let you know I too give bread to my chickens. I also give broccolli, cooked rice, lettuce, cucumber peelings, stale raisin bran, the list goes on and on. I am sure it was safe providing it was not moldy. Maybe with this heat.....

I have lost 60 chicks in a matter of a week because of feed that was molded at the bottom of the bag. It hurts the heart more than the pocket book. But I hope you don't give up. If you had a chicken with cocci, I do recommend you research on here the cleanup process. It extensive and timely so you may not want to jump in with new chicks just yet. I think everyone has experienced that too if they have raised chickens for any amount of time.

I am no expert but there are a lot of peeps on here that can help you with the bio-security measures on that thread. Big hugs

Kat (Cluknpeck): Don't beat yourself up about it. This happens to the best of us that own chickens. We all have deaths of unknown reasons or have had sickness come over our chickens. It isn't anything you have done wrong it just happens when you own chickens. It is too the point with me that I am downsizing and getting some goats. Hubby is all for it.

On a side note I got the coffee and sulfa today. Thanks so much. Enjoying a cup of it now.

. Hopefully that means next year you will have some lavender.
Reesepoultry. Did nothing happen with yours at all?..
Anyone else get lavender I think I sent out three to try

Nope, nothing at all. Not sure what happened. I put them in a pot in the house in potting soil.
