Wow. You guys are freaking nuts! I'd be eating chicken dinner at those prices! Heck, I complained to the SO about the price raise in the past two years, from $18.50 to $20 for 100lbs, but seeing the prices you guys are paying? Jeez! I'm paying half to less than half of what you guys are paying!!!

I hate to tell you guys what I pay for my feed - locally mixed and milled, certified organic - $32/50 lb for starter feed, $30/50 for layer!

I keep debating switching to commercial feed to save some money, but I just can't do it. Oh, and BTW, I drive an hour one way to get it.

Do you guys think I'm nuts? Join the club!

Nah, I don't think you're nuts... you're absolutely crazy insane! LOL! Those oats at 300lbs for $50 are all organic. I don't buy organic layer though. I could easily mix my own for less than what you're paying though, all organic, and only drive fifteen minutes away, lol.

For the people paying an arm and a leg, you guys really, really should look around for a feed mill. I couldn't imagine paying those prices! I was going through 150lbs a week not too long ago... That'd be $60 a week for some of you! And that was with full free range! I am seriously floored at the prices you guys are paying!

I pay $11 for layer crumble 50lbs and $12.25 for starter grower 50lbs. I couldn't pay $20 for a bag of feed. I would have to sell my chickens if price went that high.

There is nothing LOCAL out where I am.

Organic is a foreign language to most in our county, and the great majority of folks around here won't pay for it, so no one stocks it. When I first started with chickens, I used Purina, but I wanted organic. I found the feed store in Louisville that mixes and mills it themselves so it is always fresh. I have actually had to stand in line waiting for them to make more! My birds grow fast and healthy and my chickens like it so much better. There maybe something cheaper and closer that could compare, but I haven't found it yet. If I didn't spend so much time on this forum,

I might have time to look for, but what fun would that be!
