Quote: So sorry about the little ones. It is awful to open a box of dead babies. I got a shipment last week from a private breeder and half were dead. The breeder did everything right but the post office messed up. She shipped Monday morning Express and I received them Thursday morning.
As far as picking them up at the sort facility, I generally do that myself. The sort facility in Colorado Springs thinks I am a pain in the ?? but if I can save a day off the chicks travels then I put up with the run around they give me. The best advise I can give you would make sure you have a phone number put on the box and ask whoever ships them to you to put a note on the box to call from the sort facility when they arrive. I get a call about half the time so I always ask for tracking information from the shipper so I know when the chicks get to Colorado. I have had so many shipments I know the entire route and timing so if I don't get a call I call the sort facility. I have had the sort facility tell me a couple of times that the chicks were not there but I knew there were so I just went to the sort facility to get them. Both times the chicks were there but believe me the postal workers are not the easiest to deal with. I know that the hatcheries don't always give tracking information so that may make your getting them at the sort facility harder. It is a little easier for me also since I work in Colorado Springs so I don't have a long drive like you would. Anyway it may be worth a try.
