I received goose eggs and a Spring Orp egg mix from corancher yesterday. All made it here in great condition and are going into the incubator today, despite the weather here. The forecaster originally thought we would bypass a lot of the storms but no we got the wind and over 1 1/2 feet of snow. I went to feed my Icelandics in covered hoop coop and opened the door to a 4 foot snow drift inside the coop. The snow had come through a 12" x 3" gap on top where the plastic had blown loose. Shovelled them out and then had to help my daughter over the fence of our layer coop because of the large drift that was blocking the door. She shoveled it out of the way so the poor birds could get some food. They had some small drifts in their coop because the wind had push the insulation out of the vents on top of the coop. We were just getting to see patches of the ground. Grrr...........

Thanks again corancher for the great eggs!

OH NO!!! I hope the birdies were all ok. That's a lot of snow for them to handle.

Kimmie you can save at least a dollar or two using the flat Rate Regional Boxes. Shipping cost is based by distance. YOu can download the rate chart and compare. These boxes are a secret the post office doesn't want you to know about.

I had to go to the feed store and buy a friend for my lone Am that hatched. So I went on what was left of my lunch break and I was in a hurry. They didn't have much to choose from. There was one brown leghorn (I don't have any white egg layers so that was appealing...) and a handful of barred rocks. I bought the leghorn and one barred rock. I told them I wanted the smallest one since my baby was only two days old. I should have paid more attention... The girl grabbed the smallest one and I rushed back to work. I had a little makeshift brooder set up, so I put them in there and immediately noticed that the little barred rock wasn't right. She had wing feathers starting to come in, but was smaller than my newly hatched chick. She sat there, not moving with her beak on the ground. I gave her a few drops of water with a syringe which perked her up a bit. When I got a little break, I ran to Target and bought some poly-vi-sol. She seemed a bit better, but this morning, she was really weak. I have her some electrolyte water and another drop of the vitamins, but I think she's going to die... When I left the house this morning, the other two were snuggled up on either side of her...

Hi Bea I checked those boxes and they were not the right size. I am going to order some regional boxes today. Tried to get some from the po but they said that they don't have any that I would have to order them.

I hate that they don't let you choose your own chicks. If they aren't confident that you won't kill them, then why are they selling them to you in the first place?! Mine I got to choose. The guy realizes that I know more about them than he does and I know which chicks I want. My 4 and 5 year old children know how to handle chicks (even quail chicks) without hurting them even. Sheesh.
