I wish I could help-Im just good at planting them!

I can tell you that when I recieve them they have been cut down-dug up with roots on them-shaken so as not to have clumps of dirt all over them and roots/bulbs wrapped in wet paper towels in a ziplock/plastic bag to keep moisture in. Safely packed in elongated boxes and packed to the brim with happiness!!!

Iris are usually dug/planted in the fall.. although I have dug some during the summer.. allowed the rhizome to dry out ./. and replanted in the fall

no experience with peonies...

Irises are easy but not so much peonies since they don't like being moved.

On the irises I just dig them out, take most of the dirt off, cut off all the leaves but I do leave a little bit.
On the peonies I would leave as much dirt as possible on them, and dig around them makeing a ball, then cut off all the stems. The bigger the Peonie the more trouble it is getting it out.

I wish I could accept plants now, but it is so dry in our area, i dont need to be adding to what needs water. Maybe next spring...

packing plants and shipping

I dig em up a easy as I can,I seprate them carefully and take off as much root as I can so as not to hurt the peonies.
I ship the plants with alot still on it but you can trim it back alot,it will come back...
there are some good videos/sites about how to do it just search transplanting peonies or something like that...

Today's mail brought the hand cut silhouette that Barbara did of my youngest boy. What beautiful work! She is very skilled at getting the finest details in. I can't believe how well it came out. I was concerned that with him wearing glasses and having mussed hair that it would be too tricky but she is truly a master! Even his wee eyelashes! I'm very, very pleased. Now I need the rest of the family!

Pdsavage, what kind of books do you read?

I have plants I could offer but I'm not sure that they'd grow elsewhere. Maybe if they're in pots brought in in the winter. Guess I'll get started researching.
