Sometimes I think they use are boxes as chairs and sit on them. How do they manage to smash our eggs inside the box any other way.

I'm going to go with that too, and try to stop handling all of mine that are in the incubator--except the dark marans eggs... I dunt wanna nuther explosion!

I candled again last night and it looks like I have some quitters. But i'll leave them alone since lock down is so close. I've been wrong before. My last hatch I thought a couple eggs where quitters to when they went in lock down one of them hatched. Well it tried to, I helped it out. Turned out it had a leg issue. It's better now but it's got a wing issue i'm noticing now that it's feathers are coming in. It'll just be one of those "special" chickens

I do know it is possible to hatch them even if the air cell is broken loose. My eggs are place air cell side up during incubation thus keeping it in it's correct place allowing the chick to grow and develop properly. May not work for those that incubate with the egg laying sideways??? By time they reach LD they have already reach the air cell and it doesn't move and they have hatched just fine!

I do not handle mine hardly at all, I may candle around day 7 to see what is going on and then leave all eggs alone (even if they are duds) until Lock down.

I always have mine incubating air cell up but the air cell gets worse as the chick developes. I'll have to get a pic to show what i'm talking about. I have 1 egg that the air cell is nearly on the side of the egg. I sat that one so it's air cell up. I think their movement pulls the membrane farther away but it should get squashed back as the chick grows. IDK. I'll see about getting a pic tonight. It's too bright in here to try to do it now.

I have quite a few from my recently shipped eggs that have completely loose airsacks. I think the PO shook em up.

Hoping that they will be OK.. On another note, curious if someone can help me with the color of this Silkie chick. One of mine, out of a roo that had thrown lavender and porcelain with previous owner. I'm new to non-basic colors and am not quite sure what it is..

Looks Porcelain with the stripes.

Could possibly be a grey. But I am leaning towards Porcelain. You will be shocked on how much the color will lighten up as it gets older.
