I haven't noticed but have you ever offered any mealworms as a swap? I've been thinking of starting my own for my birds. I'm not interested in raising them to sell. I hear they can get quite abundant if not kept as a small operation. I try not to count my chickens but i'm sure there are over 100. It would be nice to raise them some live protein to go along with their feed and what treats I toss their way. Somebody had posted a thread on how to get a meal worm farm started. I'll have to look it up but I know I would need some worms to get it started.

Im pretty sure Bhep raises them??

Thanks bunches. I'll PM her

your welcome..Ive wanted to jump on them for awhile but I am not a bug person crawly things freak me out

I agree. If we start setting specific minimums on certain things, it will ruin the swap. $10 in Paypal is plenty! You won't see me offering $15. If you don't have worthwhile things to swap, then don't claim something. I'm giving away 5 books at a time--some have cost me plenty, some have not, the value is always in the eye of the "buyer". (it's like NN are weird vs NN are the cutest things on the planet)

Media Mail shipping is the cheapest way of shipping books and magazines, one National Geographic, one of the thickest magazines around, is about 12.75 ounces, that is just 2.41 in shipping. If you add delivery confirmation at .80, you are spending 3.21 on a magazine that you've already read, and would end up in the recycle bin or garbage can. This, versus eggs that popped out of a hen's bottom and you'd either sell a dozen for $2-3, eat it, or find a local swap to buy the hatching eggs, their shipping can be between $10.50-15.00. But, this isn't an egg swap, don't forget that.

Sometimes, some of us, claim something that we know may not be worth the "goal" of $15, but we enjoy the thread and carry on. This is fine with me.

IF the swap is stalled and the person really doesn't have something else to offer, enforcement of rescinding the offer could be done. This would be something that would effect when things are mailed out, "should I wait to mail this to reese to make sure anderson8505's offer is taken???..." that could be a problem.

I offer pick three, pick two, so that people can feel they're getting their money's worth.

Just me little thoughts.

ps The magazine I just received in a swap does have a price of 9.95 on it, is in great condition, and cost the swapper 2.68 in shipping. I'm happy.

I'm just curious.... if the price hadn't been on there, would you have been happy with your swap?

As a refresher, here's what the original post says :

offers must be equal to the value of 6 pure breed eggs – Examples: 4-6 iris bulbs, 6 blackberry starts, and 1 16oz jar of plum jam, 1 hard bound book or 2 couple of paperback books, 2 bars of homemade soap, 2-3 chicken saddles.

having been around since this thread was started.. I agree that the value of an item needs to be considered...especially since the package is mailed priority with DC.... does that mean that you have to offer expensive stuff.. well no.. but by offering a variety - everyone is happy. There have been times that nothing a person has is of interest to me.. I don't worry about it as everyone has their own taste and interests. I have stalled the thread.. I think everyone has. When that happens.. think of something quirky -- that usually gets things going

If all else fails.. bake something yummy that ships well.

going back to my corner now... the swaps will start moving as soon as I am not looking..

I was happy with what I picked from their swap page. I was just taken back that the brand new price tag was $1 from Dollar General. I'm all for swapping home baked goodies and plants. I have just never been lucky enough to catch them in time. I don't think it's fair to offer $5 pp or 1 magazine.

I could have sworn the very original post stated a dollar amount and examples of what equivalents were as a guide.

I don't think there was ever a set dollar amount, but I think guidelines were discussed once. BUT if you look up the prices for eggs, especially pure breeds and pure breeds like ameraucanas and silkies, its only fair to offer something of equal value.

Well i am going thu my cupboards and after the holidays i will have new swap items, some will have to be side swaps due to the cost of the item and the shipping.Hh to everyone.
