I know whats the deal with our weather. I loved the few warm days we had.
My girls are on strike 1-3 eggs a day.
right? I was out all morning cleaning pens out! sliding all over the melting ice to get to the compost pile!
at least the birds were happy!
Roosterlane.. No heat lamps until it gets down to -20 I choose birds that can handle the winters well...I do lose some to the cold weather and it breaks my heart when it happens but the ones who survive to Spring..are the champs..those are the bloodlines I choose to keep and breed! I only lose a few a year to what I assume is cold weather-totally healthy one day -gone on the floor the next
No signs of anything obvious either...We use the heated water tins to keep their water defrosted and when it does get -20, -30,-40 those days only last for a few then back to 0 or higher. I make brown rice stews for them. I crock pot big meals for them and bring them down nice and warm at night or first thing in mornings.. Rice, carrots, peas, spinach, and ground up left over meat for protein...
