[Stuck in the Coop]

Eggs from BHep arrived in great condition. That makes two boxes this week that I've received not all banged up

one more arriving tomorrow, let's hope it travels as safely.

Yesterday I set up my hatcher to move some eggs to. About 15 mins later I came back to check temperature and this is what I find. DD's kitten finds the incubator no matter where I put it and sleeps on it. When the brooder is in the house, he sleeps as close to the light as possible - silly cat. Drives me crazy he gets on the table, but I had to take a pic before I ran him off.

They are 5-7 weeks old, all together. She's been out of the quail coop for 2 weeks to heal up. When I rescued here her head was bloody and they even pulled out feathers all over her body. She just goes in a corner and takes it. I'd have to spray her whole body with bluecoat, should I do that and eventually things will work out?

Are you sure it isn't just one rouge Male. I get them sometimes. I just had to take 1 out of my new babies that hatched and are about 5 weeks old. He was blooding up some of the females. I took him out and now all is good again. Needless to say ones like that end up on the dinner table. I don't put up with the rough males. I would keep an eye out on who is doing it. I would bet it is just one.

My cats and dog seem to like my bators and brooders also. I have the same problem. I guess they like the heat.

must be the perspective of the photo, he's a little squirt. Don't know his history, but suspect he was taken from momma way too early - he was a rescue. I don't like the little butthead very much, but he is pretty and he adores me cuz I feed him

My cat leaves my bators alone. Of course, the wood stove gets a lot of company.

My cat doesn't bother anything except me and rodents. She is always wanting to sit in my lap but i'm always moving unless i'm asleep so she don't get to get comfortable. She don't bother the chickens or chicks but she will hunt wild birds and rodents. Mice and moles are her playmates. She plays catch with them, races with them and plays vollyball with them too. When they're too tired to play anymore she has a snack.

But ummmmmm, one came out BLACK.

The eggs were clearly marked H2P BO's . I got worried (without thinking) got the flash light, looked in without opening the bator yup all marked BO. Then I realized BO and Barred eggs look a like. So either I missed marked one or you accidently sent me some barrs. Girl I can't remeber, I am up to my knees in chicks. But I thought it was so funny!!!!

You know how I love my barrs!!!!!!!!!! He or she is fat, healthy and chirping and that's all that matters. Everyone has a black sheep in the family. This one is gonna be named CoCo Pop!

Stuck in Coop: I've read a few times about cats bumping the gauges on bators, I couldnt see if that could be a problem with yours. I would try adhering a clear plastic container over the "knob" to keep it from getting moved and toasting your eggs.... (I know the point of the photo was cuteness, but temperature problems are what I thought of when seeing it!! )

I watched the quail and it's more than one picking on her. I may try to dye her brown and see if that helps. I may get rid of the whole crew soon anyway. They are REALLY fun to hatch, but since I can't let them free range without building ONE more coop.... it's not working for me.

Pauletta-- I got the candle and chicken with nest today, thank you!!

THe candle made for a lovely scented gift box to open up! Great timing again, I'm still icky, and my usually-awesome-incredibly-smart daughter told me she's moving 150 miles away with no job and not much money. So, I'm a wreck.

Stuck in the Coop-- I got my goodies plus an extra decorative rooster! Yer Awesome!

I love all of it.

Oooooooooohhhhhhhh.... I have half a mind to go out and get a tattoo, or fill the incubator with every egg within a 50 mile radius that I can find, or eat my weight in chocolate (a significant amount, let me say) or drink "kool aid" until I can't see.

You chicken people are helping me stay sane.

Weird, since chickens are an addiction themselves...
