A bit off topic here but....

DH got a call last night. From a woman named Brianna at Liberty Mutual. Says someone named Susan H. has left a accidental death policy to him. She wants to meet him next week with the "gift" if he can find the time to fit her in.

Now, two problems with this....

1. We know no one named Susan H.

2. Why would anyone leave a policy to a FedEx driver. (we can only assume it was one of his customers on his route)

Has anyone heard of any scams like this running. She had his name, address, and everything. His cell phone is listed under my sisters name. She also called him JR, which is what his friends and customers call him, his legal name is Jimmy Ray. He uses his legal name on everything.
He is going to call her back in a bit and ask her for more info. When she called last night he was half out of it on the sofa. I told him to call Liberty Mutal and ask if they have a Brianna working there.

Do you think it sounds fishy? What would you do if put in this position?

I have never heard of anything like it before.
But, I would say you have the right idea in calling and seeing if there is such a lady that works there.

I think you are on the right path, calling Liberty yourself to see what is going on. I would recommend talking straight to the manager. Do you have a Liberty office near you?? Be extremely leery, it's amazing what scam artists can find out about someone online! If it's for real, congrats on the surprise!!

Okay I called the Liberty Mutual office. No such person. Called the Liberty National offices. FOUND HER. It is indeed a scam of sorts.

I talked to the branch Manager. Someone comes in and files for life insurance. They list referrals. You get a call saying CONGRATS.....etc. They come to your home to give you the "gift" of whatever amount (never above 20.00) or a free 3,000 accidental death policy. Then they want you to file yourself with them for more insurance.

I think this sounds like a lot of fun! I would love to participate!!

Welcome to the swaps! :)
