That is my Icelandic cockerel Falki. He was hatched during the Easter Hatchalong this year. He is quite the looker.

That's from this summer. He didn't molt much but I just noticed it a few weeks ago. Yes that is Kella and Brynhildur (RIP sweet girl). She was fine the passed while on the nest. I'm not sure if she was egg bound or not. Kella is doing well. I now have two pullets laying. One is a Dreki daughter and the other a Bjarthur daughter.

Just love the different looks and color combinations of Icelandics - Dreki and Falki are just beautiful (um Handsome)! My Fridrik has lots of colors to him too.

Fridrik has single comb but a couple of my girls have rose-combs. I'm hoping to breed them so I have more with rose-combs because I of where we live. But obviously the single-comb survived the many years in Iceland so it must be somewhat hardy.
Mrheinz and NotAFarm - do yours all have rose-combs or do you have a little of both?

My two original roosters from The Sheriff both had rose combs. The original hens I got from her are one single and one rose. I've hatched a few single comb cockerels but the majority have been rose combs. The pullets seem to be more evenly split between the two types.
Something I've been seeing here in my flock and noticing in pictures of other flocks, it seems the mottled Icelandics tend to have single combs more often than not. Don't be too quick to let the single comb go. I have seem my main flock rooster with his head under his wing at night so they have the instinct to protect themselves from the cold.
Here is a link to an article in a European magazine about Icelandics. You'll see the single comb on the roosters there....must not be a problem......

Thanks for the info. My roo is going into his second winter and was able to mantain his comb with no damage, so he may be doing the same as your main flock rooster. Mine are slowly settling in. I do love them and need to do some more research about them.

I'd like to see that in something besides white. White is perfect for butter but it's hard to tell what you've done. I'm just terribly curious...
I bought some white muslen as it was the cheapest I could find to try out diffrent things lol I have some cute soft matireal for when I get it down pat Ill try to remmber to take a picture of it for you .
