The are large  jumbo  coturnix.  James Marie farms is a big  breeder that until last year when he had a stroke and lost the vision in one eye used to play with color and size a lot.  They seem to take 8-10 weeks to get to full size, and are on the large size (thus the problems with the heart and feet).  I have texas a and m's,  manchurians, and James Marie s from his lines.  I had some  snow manchurians but did not get any males from the hatching and  he stopped carrying them. I'm waiting for someone else to have those eggs pop up, freaking GORGOUS birds.
I got them last year as a gift for  DH, who wanted to work on the tatanka quail project, people recommended starting with his birds. Then his job got crazy and we did not do much selective  breeding last year.  Except for the quail appocolapse from  the last month where 1/2 my birds died from unknown causes ( they do look like it could have been either heart attacks or a few foot problems, or I screwed up somehow, had to tell with quail) I have been extremely pleased with them. I have about 40 growing out now  to restock from, and a few sales for the year, just started offering again.
We are in an urban area so quail are good for people around here as an apartment pet with eggs.
If people are actualy interested in eggs I can snag those carmels and put some up, I just thought id gotten 2 trades  lately and my eggs are not flying off the shelf so  I don't want to  hold up the swap.

So ... From what you gave me are the golden manchurian or I talian mixed with the pharaoh ? Or am I just way off on what you had pulled for
Me!?! I need to figure out what the heck to do about the DRY bator humidity being 60 + and then I can boost my numbers as well. They're so short lived I may just have to drive back to you for a serama /quail fix!

My pens at the time had Italians and James Marie together ( no Italian boys) and Texas A and m and manchurian together and my own little tuxedos together.

They don't all die quick but something happened this month here. I don't know about giving you more seramas you stole all the boy eggs!!

Psha! We believe it was a ploy, on your part, to cause serama addiction thus insuring a happy repeat customer;-) as for the quail they're on NO lights so -NO eggs right now and were at about 20-30• so every once in a while one will pass for whatever reason. But I thought it prudent to do a hatch when they're a year before they stop laying over winter the next year. They live approx 2 yrs?

None of mine have lived 2 years yet. But they can. Bubble lived almost 2 years bullying everyone till the end..

As long as you have between 3/4 and 1 sqf per bird. If you want a few fertile eggs and harmony keep 1 boy per 5-8 girls. Won't all be fertile but enough. I do a 1:3 or sometimes 4 raito with about 8 birds per house.

Our's is at 16% humidity in the bator. Best hatches ever. :D

I bought 65 eggs. I'm hoping to wrap my 10x10 kennel in smaller wire towards the bottom and put a small hutch in for the quail.
