Button quail are very tiny-think Chickadee size. Coturnix are dove size. They reach full size very fast-laying and ready for butchering by 6-7 weeks, usually.

I just added more Trade items on my BYC page.

I was also tempted by he button quail but I fear they would need to live in the house to stay alive with our weather here. Plus I read the females don't live fore very long without the proper diet. Sounds like a hassle. Besides I have my Cortunix and just love them. They will jump on me when I go into there stall.

So the Coturnix are pretty hardy? What do they eat? Game bird food I suppose. Do you brood them just like chickens? I'm so ignorant when it comes to some stuff (well maybe most stuff)

Button quail are tiny, the size of hummingbirds or so. They are look at pets, they rarely like to be handled and spook very easily. They need to be kept in 1 male/1 female pairs only or they will likely fight and injure the extra birds ( no trios or quads.)
They produce eggs daily for many months of the year. I use my extra eggs for boiling, mashing ( shell and all)and feeding back to my Serama.
They will die at sustained temperatures of 50 degrees or below, so can't be kept outside in too many places.
I will get a couple of website on here for you to check out soon. These two sites have the best and most accurate information on raising and keeping button quail.

Yes, Coturnix are hardy birds. I move the cage into my unheated/uninsulated chicken house in the winter, but keep them outside during the spring/summer/fall. They are fairly calm birds, if they are handled from babies. They can fly, however, so if they get out they will fly away. They do need a high-protein (22% and up) feed, as I am finding. Mine are 11 weeks old, and I just got my first two eggs today.

x2. I've been wondering about those button quail too but hadn't gotten around to researching.

I am just getting started with quail. I have 4 hatched so far. They are tiny and so cute! Yeah, game bird crumbles and I gave them some boiled egg. Put a quail waterer in so they wouldn't drown in it. Now I am trying to build a round brooder. I hear they tend to pile up in corners. I am learning as I go along.
oh, and you have to keep them separate from the chickens.
