I agree. I lost a rabbit to a stray dog and he came back looking for more, luckily we popped a cap in him (pretty sure we didnt kill him but apparently he went back home... nearly a mile away.... and his mommy and daddy found out their pooch was straying too far from home. So either we did kill him or his parents got a warning they wouldnt ignore... either way he didnt come back.... I have no mercy when lives are in my hands... too much at stake. I know you will get whatever it was, dog, fox, or whatever. Just remember, they will return

Thank you to everyone for the thoughts and prayers. I didnt sleep at all last night and my head is pounding. We spent over 2 hours looking in the woods with 8 of us on the hunt. I did find my sweet POL blue Ameraucana "Taylor"-she was dead too

She was "one of those birds" that I adored. Followed me everywhere-sat next to me and loved her chin rubbed! I had held out hope for her until the last minute when DH found her. Never in 5 years have I gone through this. When I first had chickens I lost a few to a coon and killed and trapped 7 of them that Summer. Nothing since-Everyone around us ( very remote area near a camp ground) is very respectful with their animals on leashes. We are thinking its "summer" people who just let their dog out loose to do their thing! Either way we will be ready if it shows up tonight. Jim-thank you for saying I can keep the eggs but I'm ok with shipping them to you

I was done hatching for the season after hatching for 6 months straight...So far 10 hens and my top roo were were found dead. The thing that sucks is my Lav orp roo was amazing. Sweetest guy ever and his girls LOVED him. When you get a great roo like that its so hard to find another-he was the best protector boy in 5 years. I even had him sold at one point and called the buyers and said I changed my mind because of how much I loved him.

Thank you to all who offered help with eggs and such

I greatly appreciate the support and I will keep you updated if we get whatever did this. I just hope it comes back tonight because my nights are always so hectic and I can't be on the look out every night until next week:( Whatever it is WILL be back that's for sure. Until then, all birds stay locked in barns and coops/pens-poor babies. I better make them one of my Summer stews for a treat tonight so they wont be so mad at momma...

He was another one of our lovers "JJ" best dang bantam roo ever! He was the only one taken from that coop-The rest stayed safe locked up-How and why he was chosen and pulled from his run is beyond me but his feathers were everywhere.

Pulled? like thru the wiring? I'm sorry love, i know this is hard, but have you thought about a post on the Preads & pests with photos of the damaged runs? That may help pin-point what sort of pread you have.

No haven't thought of that. But I take blame for the birds as most were my free rangers. We let them free range when we are home and they dont go far and we are down there with them all the time. In fact the time it happened last night is usually the time I am sitting down with them giving them their nightly treaters and talking to them. But I was at my game and Dh had to leave for an hour-that's when it happened:( I can't help but to take all the blame but I can say they had great lives for the 6 months to 5 years being spoiled rotten. I'm happy they were able to eat their little bugs and be big , fat , happy and healthy for the time I had them. We are now looking at more fencing and other things to help but good Lord it already looks like fort knox down there!

Your use of the verb "pulled" is what caught my eye. dogs chase and pounce, but don't pull. raccons, opossiums, pull.

That said I have zero doubt that they lacked for love, i'm sure they were content and happy birds.

I got more info on JJ. He wasn't pulled. He had slipped out of coop at feeding time and they let him stay out with the others because he was so awesome -The lav roo never fought with him-I think he just humored him and his manliness!
gig.gif
But he was snagged too:( I have people taking photos of all the feathers and carnage and all the bodies right now ( Im at work). Im calling animal control to get this documented and and I pray that we catch the dog? tonight.
