must...resist...the urge...to...candle....gah! day 5 and i'm trying not to candle the eggs. I did just candle my sole barred rock egg from Hot2pot, just to show my sister...we have development! Nothing yet from the couple of EE eggs from coopscoop, they were miss handled by the po.

So a quick Q- I can't see anything in the maran eggs, would i do a...hmmm, whats the water test called.... Well, would i do that on them just to make sure if they're duds? Could i do that at about day 18?

ps, i got a new flashlight just to candle, the old one was about 9 lumens, this one is about 70 and is width of my thumb, its awesome!

I would wait on the marans eggs, you WILL be able to sell with that new super flashlight

I use a 200 lumens flashlight with any marans egg. I usually don't touch them until at least day 10 or 12 and then only again on day 18 for lockdown. They can be difficult even then. You just want to make sure that you can see the aircell at the top and you can usually tell from there. My best advice is don't mess with them too much. I find out of everything that I've hatched that the Marans are the most difficult to hatch and I've had much better hatch rates when I candle them only a few times. In fact I'm going to attempt to sit on my hands for the whole cycle and only candle at lockdown!

yeah we'll see how that goes!

Hope that helps

I candle mine right in the turner...... I have dropped an egg...1/2 way through incubation. Learned my lesson.

well, they're all sitting now without turning, since they had such a rough road getting here. The air cells on the EE that i got in the same box were all detached, so i'm hoping that not moving them will help out. i'll start turning them on day 6

Speaking on marans eggs, here is a picture of mine fresh from the local fair, well not the exact ones but from the same stock. The ones entered in the fair left today with an 80 year old gentleman to go to another fair!

Also a picture of everything that won this year.

Rules are on page one.

Here's how it works: There is one offer at a time and that offer is from the person who accepted an item from the previous offer. If you see something you want in the current offer, be the first to post mine and then offer your items. Someone else will look at your items and claim something and then post their items. It works like a chain.

All swappers are required to get confirmation numbers. You can ask for a confirmation number at the post office when you ship. I do most of my shipping straight from my computer with priority mail so the confirmation is included in the price. The difference for new members is they are required to mail their items & send the confirmation number to the person that they claimed an item from before the item they claimed is mailed.

Ok, it makes more sense now! I thought everyone was just offering up stuff at the same time.... Thanks!

This one recently won 4th place. Judge said she needed more gold. All her offspring have the gold. One of them is the picture above.

This is my quad of partridges. You can't see the dark hen very well. She's camera shy.

The roo is a calico. I don't have him anymore though. Just used him a little while trying to get a calico sizzle.
