Have just the one quail from this hatch of two full bators. I'm letting it run a few more days because I have had horribly late hatches but I think I'm done. Shipping is just not possible in my area. Even next day shipping takes 4 days. I feel so bad that I got eggs that could have gone to someone else and been happy chickens.

Got Buckeye eggs from Hot2Pot today.

The PO was not kind to them. When I picked up the box, my Post Master says, "I think there was a problem with your eggs." OH boy. Box was wrapped in a plastic bag with an apology from the PO on it for damaging my package

egg yolk in the bottom of bag and box all wet. The eggs were not just broken but smashed. 3 are not broken but one has a crack.

How do I wash them without removing protective covering? So far I just wiped gently with paper towel to get them dry. And someone mentioned waxing cracks, could you tell me how? I'd like to at least try with the cracked egg since only 3 survived our wonderful postal system.

Golden laced orpingtons.....such as thing... I didn't know they came in anything but buff and bbs

I actually saw the beautiful English Golden Laced Orpingtons several years ago and at the time there were no imports in the US so I went about creating my own and I think I have some that are really close to the English birds in color but not size yet.

I also have a pair of the English import Golden Laced Orpingtons that are around 10-12 weeks. Picture is what they looked like when I received them from Greenfire Farms. They look 100% better now after a few weeks of tender care.

When I got broken eggs I dipped the good ones in a mild bleach solution and rubbed gently. I then let them air dry. I had some hatch by doing this. Then I got another set and didn't do this and 6 of 8 got stinky so the next set I did the same way as the first time.

As far as putting wax on them, I just drip wax over the crack and let it dry before setting the eggs.

Good luck.

I got word from Yoda that all of the Guinea eggs that I sent were broken when he got them. They arrived 3 days late after I called my PO to have them find them. Yoda's PO called and said the just got them and were making a special trip to deliver them.

HOW DO YOU SMASH GUINEA EGGS DARN PO? The shells are so thick and hard I don't know how the keets hatch. If I throw one on the ground to feed the kittens, the still usually don't break and all of these eggs were individually wrapped in bubble wrap.

Oh man , I hate when that happens! I usually light a candle and let the wax drip on the crack, or duct tape, cut a small strip and apply. If you get any more of my swap eggs, I will send you a double batch. Sorry, at least they apologized. Mine never do anything to admit they are at fault.
On a happy note , today is Jim's Birthday! Happy Birthday, Jim!

I updated my swap page and am still cleaning so will be continuing to do so. I will be moving items to the thrift store very quickly so if there is something you're interested in, let me know so I can set it aside until you can grab it.

This isn't related to the swap or even chickens but UPS dropped a couple of boxes off here today. I can't believe they even brought them in the condition they were in. The items inside the box were in their own individual boxes and even they were crushed!
