what I wouldn't give for a broody to raise chicks for me... All I have is 4 lazy hens that don't do anything but eat, 1 with obvious signs of molting, so she gets a pass

I am going to try to cat food in the chicken scratch also. I found some locally made dog food that is pellet sized like the layer pellets and I added that in. Then my dog got into the bag and that was the end of that!

Granted, I don't have nearly as many hens as you do Beth, (but I'm working on it! haha!) but I'm only getting 1-2 eggs daily from 13 hens. This is my first winter with them, so I'm still learning what to expect. My biggest thing to remember is that they aren't laying machines... as much as I'd like a dozen a day!

When God answers your prayers to be overflowing with eggs, you can send some my way!

I'd love to try my luck with some sizzles.

Does anyone have any Barred Rock eggs or Marans eggs they'd like to do a side swap for? I have cleaned and put my incubators away, and I can hear them calling for more eggs!

I am pretty lucky right now I guess, getting 7/9 eggs a day. I do have BR x AS roo eggs which are sex-linked if you're interested. Pick of my first chick from this pairing:

they have NO excuse. They have not laid in 2 months now. Sizzles and Austrolorps quit too. Seramas are laying sporadically.

They are all healthy, lice/mite free. Wormed end of Oct.

Mine love this stuff I make from time to time. I haven't made any lately but when I do they tear it up.

Cooked brown and white rice
Tuna, Salmon or Mackereal - drained
Applesauce
crushed egg shell
Oyster shell
What ever left over vetables I have

I mix it all up and give portions to everybody in all the pens.

I hear cabbage will make roos infertile till it's out of their system. I don't know how tru that is but I hardly ever give cabbage just in case. I don't know if it'll help get them to lay but they sure do like it
