these were eggs laid by the chicks I hatched from eggs sent by you and JenLyn. I wanted to see if the boys were getting the job done before time to set for the New Year's Day hatch. It's a wonder they get anything done the way they are in almost constant motion

But whatever the reason, I am happy with my 8 newest additions to the menagerie.

hmm..... My little buggers are constantly bugging the girls. Hence why I got some saddles for them from Edna (Emvickrey) They were plucking them poor girls.

Are they leaving the little white foam everywhere yet. If they aren't that could be why. Once they start leaving them every where you should be good to go.

Do how do I begin to tell male/female apart??? I have several colors and would like to narrow my breeding pen down as I have 19 that are just about to be a breeding age. I know some are auto sexable based just on color. I hatched some eggs from Jenlyn, and know she has a variety of colors in her pen cuz I ended up with about 5 different colors.

Oh the woe's of a quail newbie...

The females will have a bunch of speckles on the breast/chest the males won't. My sure way of sexing them is to gently turn them over and push very lightly on the vent ans if white foam comes out they are males if not they are females. Also males have a slight bigger vent than the females.

Thanks for the info, I'm sure it will thrill my DH that we will be squeezing quail vents.

Most will have the speckels except the whites. The Dark colored one are really hard to sex by the speckles. So I vent test them.

I used all of my quail aprons and still have more girls to put them on.

My sewing machine is broken or I would attempt it. I think my hubby is getting me a Brothers Embroidery Sewing Machine for christmas.

Ohhh, I assumed that the foam everywhere meant they were "missing the mark". I have 3 males and 5 females together. They are not missing any feathers, yet, but from watching them, I would worry more about head feathers, as the males hold on, even when the females are running all over the place,

The males are constantly chasing the females, or being dragged by them.
