I need some broody hen advice! One of my Swedish Flower Hens has decided to go broody.
She is in my greenhouse/temporary coop with three roosters and 6 other hens, of various kinds. If I can get my rooster cages done today, it will be only two roosters, but 10 other hens. The new chicken coop will hopefully be finished this weekend![]()
. I had been collecting all the eggs, but decided to give her some pullet eggs today that were a day or two old to see if she will hatch them. She already had a Barred Rock egg under her from today. I am planning on building a broody box in the new coop. Do I need to separate her NOW, or will she be OK in with the rest of the hens and roos for a few days? Will it bother her if I do move her when the new coop is finished? I don't really care if she hatches the eggs (I just put some in the incubator today, too!
), but I thought it would be fun to try!![]()
Any advice would be very much appreciated!
You don't have to move her now, but you may want to mark her eggs because the other hens will decide that her spot must be the place to be and lay their eggs in with her. If she gets displaced, she may go set on other eggs in the coop. Like Breshcandra said, if she's truly broody, she won't care about being moved.
dmcann and ray n debi, i'm sorry for your losses. It's always hard.![]()
Beautiful!!!! Did an egg break??? I see a missing egg!!!! Nooooooo...wait until you see them hatch!! HUGE furry fluffy chicks right down to their toes..some of them...
Sweet and welcome aboard!Alrighty, I am ready to do some swapping! I have been lurking on this thread since I first joined BYC. So I am finally over my 3 months probation, I have created a swap page (more items to come) and I am looking forward to some fun.
