If you have been or expecting my Serama eggs. Jake my frizzled roo from pixie chickens IS throwing chocolates!!!!!! Yeah I had just to rid of a chocolate roo who never gave me a chocolate.
I'm so excited I have ome of his eggs in my bator, nd a bunch went out or are going out this week.

How can you tell if a chick is chocolate. I have some from 2 batches of your little serama and the onlyt thing I can tell you about them atm is that 2 have funky feathers I am going to guess are frizzled.

A few years ago we had an old sick guniea pig get maggots in a wound. The vet had a pill that was made for chickens to kill the maggots and she had us try I on the guniea pig. It worked I don't know the nme of it. Maybe you vet will sell you some without bringing the chicken in. Our vet gives us whatever, well sell us whatever we need for the chickens without bringing them in.

I would also try Blu-Kote spray or powder. We use it for many wounds on the horses and dogs, and I admit to using it on myself once I recently used it on a chicken who tore her back up and she healed very nicely. Besides the antiseptic and healing properties, the purple-blue coating will deter her and any others from pecking at it. Well worth a try.

Trapped a little raccoon last night by the coop that was broken into.  He won't be making that mistake again!

He killed three of them but I didn't see the 4th until this morning... one of the pullets has a big cut in her skin all the way up her side and I didn't realize it until last night.  I'm guessing I'll have to put her down... I checked out the wound, hoping to be able to clean her up and butterfly her back together, but the flies have already laid eggs on the wound, the dirty buggers.  

The traps will be set for more possibly thiefs until this new coop is built!

Get some vetericyn, it works very well. I had a turken almost deskined on her neck, her skin torn almost completly around her neck from something trying to snatch her though the fence ( also got a broken beak). I sprayed it on 2x a day. Make sure you pick the scab off everyother day or so, so it gets to the wound and it heals right, took about 3 weeks to heal up good. It also worked on a scapled hen's head, her's took about 6 weeks to heal.

Help. I am beside myself. I had some chicks shipped Monday from PA and they are still not here yet and the po can't find them.


They are cuckoo silkies and red creole orphs..............

I have NEVER had chicks/chickens take this long.

I hope she makes it. If you can get the maggots off and clean the wound, I think she'd have as good a chance as not. I've read so many miracle chicken stories like farmerchef's.

Yikes. What is the tracking showing? Does it show them accepted in the postal system? Were they shipped express or priority? Hoping all turns out okay. Keep us posted.

happyhens...re: the maggots. Clean the area and use SWAT for horse. I have the pink...but doubt it matters what color.
I found a NASTY wound on my BLRW rooster a couple months ago, filled with maggots

Hosed the wound out, globbed the SWAT on and never looked back....he is prefect !!

I went shopping today and came home with these three babies!!

One week old Booted Back Copper Marans. I found them from a local breeder. My older three Maran's are not booted. So sorry for the poor image quality. Just had to share them with everyone.











I also picked up this pair. A four month old sizzle and a blue cochin pullet. The little sizzle's main wing feathers look so scruffy right now maybe from fighting other roosters, I don't know.
