I hung up old cds. They spin in different ways, never the same pattern that a hawk could get used to. If one does get brave as he nears the cds, the flapping of his wings would make it go wild and again should stop him. Try hanging them from your owl. It might make him seem alive.

You could also try tying bird scare tape to poles or structures around the run. A hawk won't fly in if he thinks he is going to get caught in something.

Thanks, will try some of these things,,,never had a problem untill this year, they have been cutting down alot of the wooded area'a to build housing developments, might have something to do with it.

Advice needed- I found another dead chicken. :(
I really don't know what to do. I posted this thread- https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/705131/cocci-keeps-coming-back-the-flock-is-devastating
but haven't gotten a bite yet.
I have about 30 swap eggs in the bator right now, and I am trying to figure out if I should just start over with chicks from swap eggs. Not to sound evil that I would do that but perfectly healthy chicks sounds so nice after battling this for months.

With all the troubles you are having..... I honestly.. would clean everything real good.. place new litter down.... keep all feeders and waterers bleached out... feed medicated chick starter .. and be sure to add vitamins to their water soo they don't lack in vit B from using the meds. I can't emphasize CLEAN enough ... also... try to keep them in a calming environment as possible.. Stress only makes them more susceptible to the cocci.

Make sure you make yogurt a regular part of their diet as well. Plain and unsweetened. Get one that has several kinds of beneficial bacteria rather than just one or two. If there are enough of the good bacteria in their gut, they can out-compete the bad bacteria.

I don't know how your temperatures are there but regulating the temperature would help too. Just so its not getting HOT in the day and then COLD at night - it's very stressful to them. Big temperature swings are hard to take and having low resistance to the cocci germs spells trouble. Maybe some sort of heat source at night to keep them warm? Make sure their living area is not drafty.
