Because equating "intelligence" with someone because he shares your religious belief is implying that there is a "lack of intelligence" for those who don't. And....that's kinda, well, against forum rules.

In your signature do you not make note "Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false," so then. I take it from most of your posts you aren't a very religious person. Are you on the side of the wise and anyone who is religious can be equated with being only common; which being the opposite of the wise would be a insult to ones intelligence? Is that not against forum rules?

Even in your signature you have a post saying that the earth is considered flat by the church, which would make them look like idiots. If you really look into it though the only verse mentioned for the earth being flat (four corners etc) speaks of gathering (I believe it was the Jews) from the extremities of the earth. Actually in Isaiah it makes mention of the earth being a sphere pretty much. Even before it was a commonly held, or known belief.

I'm not asking you to change your signature, I really don't even care. You have your beliefs and I have mine. But no reason to accuse Beekissed of equating ignorance to anyone who doesn't share the same belief/religious faith when your quotes are along the same lines.

God bless,
Daniel.

Actually, Aqua is quoting ancient philosophers; in Magellan's time the church did advocate for earthen flatness. I didn't interpret his comments as implying that any of us Christians are "common". And he did smile at us and wish us a Merry Christmas.

This is such a very personal topic, it's easy to take offense when none is intended.

Again I say, Peace!

Uh oh, there I go being co-dependent again, and fighting someone else's battles.... Sorry Aqua, didn't mean to do that!

It is a quote, and pertains to how RELIGION is equated, not BELIEF IN A GOD. It has to do with the political structured set of beliefs maintained by a religious authority, and how that is perceived by the three groups of people in the quote -- not what a person thinks with his own head.

Again, that quote also pertains to a political structured set of beliefs versus thinking with your own head. "The Church" not "God" said the earth was flat.

I think sometimes people get intelligence and wisdom mixed up a lot of times in the use of the words. Intelligence and wisdom do not always go hand in hand. Intelligence can be gained but wisdom must be developed. The former owner of the company I work for is one of the most intelligent people I've ever met. He can speak 5 languages and knows business finance like nobody I've ever met, but when it comes to spending money he can be quite foolish.

Quotes one uses typically implies the belief one has. If I quote the bible, people would assume I believe the bible. If I quote something Mohammed Ali said people would assume I stand in agreement with him. Whether the church advocated for it or not, isn't really the point. As I mentioned though, I really don't care if he has that as his signature or not. I don't intend to be harsh, I am just blunt.

ETA: I typically just take those quotes in the way I am commonly given them. I have spoken with countless atheists that actually believe the bible/I truly say the earth is flat. Among other things. They commonly assume that because I'm a Christian I'm ignorant. I've seen things like that slide on this forum, but a Christian can make something along the same lines and everyone seems to attack him. I'm not playing martyr, I'm just speaking as to what I've seen.

God bless,
Daniel.

I agree 100% and it was my fault for using the wrong word...should have said the young man is very wise to attribute his athletic skills to his Creator. Thanks for reminding me of that.
