WHAT???

What's causing people to loss their homes? I haven't been paying attention to the economy other than my soap business is suffering but that's a part time gig now. I work part time and my husband just got a really good raise. I'm in the process of buying more animals not getting ride of them.

So what's going on? I know I sound clueless but I reckon I haven't been paying attention. I know people in Raleigh are foreclosing on their homes but (knock on wood) I haven't been affected by anything.

We're lucky when it come to gas though. We probably only spend $50-$60 a month on gas since I don't drive much and DH has a company vehicle.

Huh?

You know... the whole "giving loans to anyone and everyone", intrest only, etc etc. and now all of those bad loans have matured and people can't afford to pay them.

Oh sorry. Like I said I reckon I haven't been paying attention. If that makes me ignorant than I guess I am.

I can completely understand having to give up an animal for the sake of feeding your family. If it came down to it that's what we would have to do, no matter how much we love our pets there are certain priorities that have to be met first, and taking care of your human responsibilities and yourself is always first. I know I would do everything I could to keep my pets, but if it came down to it we would have to give them up. Of course, I have 2 pit bulls, so they would most likely be put down, which is so horrible I can't even imagine. My chickens and ducks would go to feed us. It terrible what's happening, and if we could afford it we would buy 10 acres and live off the land.

That is what is happening here too. We have three horses right now at our local animal shelter right now waiting for adoption. They were found wandering around in differnet areas here where I live.

PS. Carri just thought I would let you know an update on the "dog rescue" in your area I have talked to you about before. they are being brought to court I filled out all my paperwork for the lawsuit. Sorry Southern off topic but I am not in here much anymore busy time of the year for me

I hate to say it but they need to allow butchering of horses for dog food again. Its become epidemic, the amount of horses that people can no longer feed. They can't even sell them around here. I had some fellow try to give me some Tennesee Walkers the other day! Nice horses, too. I love horses as much as the next person, but there has to be a solution for the problem. We never had this problem when you could take a horse to the stock sale and sell it by the pound.

Down home there was a fellow that took his horse to the stock sale, parked the trailer and put a sign on it that said Free Horse. He stepped away to get a sandwich and, when he came back, there was an additional horse in his trailer!!!! Sad but kind of funny.

People are losing their homes for a few reasons. The primary reason is that they bought more house then they could really afford. The second reason is that banks gave them loans that were more then they could afford. To entice them to do this, they gave ARMs (adjustable rate mortgage), which unlike their fixes interest rate counterparts, have interest rates that normally go up after a certain amount of time. So instead of paying just a few percent interest like people were for the first few years, they suddenly find themselves paying 7 or 9 %, raising their monthly payments which they can no longer afford, and subsequently lose their home. A lot of people got caught by this, which really was caused by greed on both sides, the home buyer and the banks.

As far as people giving up their animals, you have to realize that not everyone is super attached to their animals, and then would give them up to maintain some lifestyle. Or, people are so strapped for cash that perhaps they have to chose between feeding their horse, or feeding their family. It's a tough situation to imagine yourself in, but when you are strapped for cash and are struggling to put food on the table, you have to try and cut back wherever you can (all the nonessentials).

Hope that is a bit helpful.
