I haven't tried it yet... but you can eat and make jelly from the fruits.... and I think it is also used to make a juice that repels bugs. (not sure if it is a specific plant or just prickly pears in general.)

My 5 year old has her own cactus garden.....she does all her own planting and work for it. She's very careful and has her own special method of handling her cactus with a towel. We just have to remind the 2 year old that it makes a boo boo and he doesn't touch

There was an article in the current issue of "Out Here" from Tractor Supply about how a rancher used PP cactus to feed cattle during a drought.

3 FEET! Yours must be different than mine........ Do you think they would adapt to Michigan climate like my others have? Are ALL prickly pears hardy like that...or just some? Anybody know?
