What's a girl to do...with too many a roo???

Wish I lived near some of you. I've been searching Craigslist for a young rooster. Finally found a man with hens listed who lived within a reasonable distance. I called and he said he would also give me a rooster if I bought a couple hens

heading over there in a few hours to add to the flock. He has many beautiful breeds, just hope they are healthy.

I am in the same boat. I have 6 more Roo's that need a home. I posted an ad on CL and someone bought one of my GLW Roo's this week. I am going to keep trying to sell them for the next 3 weeks, then it's going to be a sad day around here.

I love the Roo's. They are more social than my hens. When I go outside, all the boys come running to see me.
I'll miss them, but as they are growing they get into more and more "Tiffs" and I don't want the girls over stressed with too many men vying for their attention!

i had the same problem with my ducks, only 2 girls out of 8 birds. if you cant find a home for them you could always have a chicken dinner.

HOW LUCKY AM I????? This guy come today and took four roosters, thats all he wants,he had got some from me before and a bear broke into his barn and killed the silkies because they could not fly to get away.He has made a better incloser for the silkies now.So he took three silkie rooster and my BO rooster.Said he would take all my roosters ,I have some that I don`t know yet what they are and some that are in the incubator and I`m sure there will be half roosters. He tried to pay me and I said No way if you just keep taking my roosters thats payment enough!!He works for the police dept. and a tsc so I know that he takes good care of them, and his young son loves them.

I saw that someone recommended offering your little roos on CL really cheap or free,.. here's the thing,..lots of people have lots of roos to get rid of it's part of having chickens, breeding them, hatching them,.. anyway,.. they can be hard to get rid of,..if you don't use them for meat.

There have been many reports of unscrupulous people picking up free roosters & kittens or "looking" for them on Craigs List to use in training their fighting cocks and pit bulls. A friend in a neighboring town gave 2 roos to what he thought was a "good home" ( somone looking on CL) only to have the police show up at his door weeks later trying to find out if he was involved in the fighting of pit bulls and the death of lots of small animals on the property. They had busted the guy doing it and found my friends name and address in his computer. His little roos had been used as dog bait. It's good to be careful. We cull ours and put them in the freezer ,.. better a great life with a swift end and being of real use ,. than a horrifying death in a dogs mouth. some folks wont talk about it,. but it very real.
this may be a larger problem in my area than yours,. I don't know,. just wanted to let you know. I certainly didn't think about it until my friend had the police tell him about it.

Finding someone that will use them for meat for themselves is always a good plan or maybe they can process them for you.

I never even thought about that! It's ashame you can't do something nice (like practically give away roos) without having to worry about them being used for something like that.

There is something else you should know,.. just because you buy pullet chicks is not a guarantee that they will be pullets! We have had several sneaky roos that were from the "pullet bin",.. it's just not that easy. You have to be prepared to do something with your roos,.. unless you buy only sex link chicks,.. then you can be sure,. .....
