what's a good chicken treat?

I have learned in the past year or so that chickens eat alot more than chicken feed. They love bugs-bait shops would be alot cheaper than a pet store. They love grapes, strawberries and for thanksgiving I gave them squash and cranberries. I hear they love pumpkin. Hardboiled eggs mashed up with the shell included is a really good treat. I didn't jnow about clover, I will try that for sure.

Mine love just about anything, but won't eat anything bitter, like radiccio, escarol, mustard greens, etc. If I have a left over cantalope or watermelon, after cutting out the good stuff, I put those in there. They pick away all day and when they are done, all that is left is a piece of green "parchment paper". They love pasta, especially with a little marinara sauce, if any is left from dinner.

Mine have a bowl in their pen where I put the stuff (bottom of a 5 gal.bucket) and they will walk straight out in the morning, looking in the treat bowl. They sure love their treats and eat better than most people I know!

Mine are 5 weeks old today and they already know the purple dish is where they get their bean sprouts, broccoli and grapes from; they love them all! They go nuts, peeping like crazy when I pick the dish up now. Like "OMG!!! She's getting us treats!!" When they get the treats, the game of keep away begins. LOL!

Gotta try some of these other suggestions.

I give them treats once or twice a week; how often does everyone else give treats?

We give them the "heel" whenever we open a new loaf of bread. So once or twice a week. Talk about a feeding frenzy, there like a school of pirahna. Little bantys jumping off the backs of leghorns wrestling for their share!

LOL! I use a purple dish too! They see that dish and come a-runnin'! The other day I left one outside, and the next day I was carrying it in and Pearl saw me and got all excited thinking I was bringing her a tasty treat! I think I need to go find something now. My cucumbers are coming in really good and I have some in the fridge. Think I'll take 'em a nice cold one!

The crickets sound like a great idea! I'm going to have to try that when my babies get older--they'll be 1 week tomorrow. It's funny, I want them to grow so I can take them outside on the grass and give them treats, but I want them to stay little and fuzzy because they're so cute! Indecisive much? LOL!

Mine go nuts for lettuce. Will eat dandelions and strawberry tops only when they feel like it. I gave them a couple of stale dinner rolls today, and they were unimpressed.
