What's All This Cheeping About?

So, I am new to chick raising, and I had two chicks about a week ago. They are about 3 weeks, until one of them died yesterday. What happened? I fed them, watered them, cleaned their coop plenty of times. So what?

The night before my chick died, they were cheeping endlessly. Their feet were sticking to their poop, and I was going to clean their coop the next day and clean their toes too, and I use newspaper for their bedding, and softer paper, about 1 inch deep for their nest. In the morning, that one died, with only the other one. It keeps cheeping, going and going, only to stop when there is water (maybe food?) What is going on and what should I do?


(I need an answer FAST! Going to the vet is not an answer)

Oh, sorry... it died... My friend reminded me that bantams die easily as chicks... and I forgot when I was choosing chicks....

I've raised a couple of chicks by themselves , I've found putting a mirror in a corner where they hangout the most is very helpful they think they are not alone. Secure well so it doesn't fall on them. Hope it helps.

Chickens are not stupid birds, only chicken people know this, my girls figure out just about everything I try to do with them and they know each name. When I call Ginger and she ignores me, Pepper pecks her on her head or neck as if to say mom is calling...pay attention. I hope everyone gets to know their chickens and how smart they can be. When I see how smart they are it breaks my heart thinking thousands of thousands of chickens are caged so inhumanly and forced to lay eggs and it is so unnecessary, they gladly lay eggs on their own.

Hi, I know I am new here, but Chicks survive better in groups of four or more. That is why our local supplier has a minimum sale. Also, they cheep really loud when they are too cold. Idealy, you dont want the temp in the enclosure to fall below 75 for the first few weeks at any given time.
