What's humane for dispatching an industrial meat bird???

If you kill an animal you intend to eat with a swift sure stroke and do not allow it to sit in agony, this is humane. I have a friend who swears by cutting the head off, a neighbor who wouldn't do anything but slit throats. I have seen them both do it and neither is any faster than the other and I have never seen them let a chicken sit in obvious torture. Any way you do it, doing it quickly with a minimum of fuss is humane.

I'm sure this is what God would want. It is respectful of the creature and compassionate for the pain we must cause in order that we might live well.

A note aside: I do not approve of mechanical killing lines because automated machines do not know if they have done the job or not. An animal could be in agony for long minutes or even be skinned alive until the final heartbeat. Not all slaughterhouses are automated. I realize that without a mechanical kill line, our supply would drop drastically and cause an enormous shift in how the economics of our meat supply works. I just prefer that people do it, for more than one reason.
