Does he have red in his feathers? I don't see it, but with computers it is always hard to tell how accurate the colour is. Anyways, calico is a splash with red, not a grey with red.

He looks to be nice & typey. His comb is redder than preferred, but shouldn't be a DQ. A lot of breeders prefer smaller combs, but that can cause problems with infertility and/or lack of "interest" in the girls.

I would certainly show him if he were in my flock

I'm no expert, but he looks to have a few hard feathers in the wings.

He looks like he might have a decent poof. I agree, I like the smaller combs.

Other than that, he looks like some of the ones I've seen shown, so go for it! Have some fun!

Offhand I don't mind large combs; I do prefer that they be smoother, though. Calico is not a recognised variety for any breed. It's a name coined by George Mihalik for splash with red mixed throughout. It is similar in appearance to what Poultry Genetics for the Non-Profesional calls red splash.

he is from a mixed colored flock there is no apa/aba standard for him, i believe the color name they came up with for his color would be tortoise. he is not calico and is pet quality but all silkies r wonderful.

calico is from a buff to splash mateing and is a diluted gene used to clear blue smutt in buffs. they r splash colored with spots of buff splashed on them.
