What's on your spring wishlist?

Well, my spring chick wish list is officially 100 strong, from 3 different sources. Nearly half of them are Orloffs!

Here's what I'm looking at so far:

Sand Hill: Orloffs, a few Cream Brabanters, Buff and White Chanteclers. (50 total)
Welp: All Orloffs (25 total)
Breeder: Buff and Lavender Ameraucanas, Buff Chanteclers. (25 total)

These will be in addition to whatever Delaware and "project" hatches I get out of my existing flock.

What's on your wish lists, or am I the only one already looking at my spring orders!

How Many? I don't think this list will be done this spring though, I've got things that have to be done first.

Incubator. Which would be very very dangerous.

Since there are 3 dozen eggs in the incubator right now - - Dh will be having a cow if I bring up a spring list too. He already has to build a new coop (quickly) for the ones in the incubator. The old coop is at max capacity with the current flock !

I think I will have to sit this spring out - - -

I'm planning to try and find another bloodline of Spangled Orloffs to add to and improve our current stock, also need new blood in the Black Giants, Barred Rocks, Salmon Faverolles, add a little English blood to the Partridge Cochins (If possible), and am going to start over with Dominiques (This years hatch was a joke). Also wanting to add some new breeds like Speckled Sussex, Lavender Orpingtons, more Silver Campines and some Gold Campines, some Gold & Silver Sebrights for my son, Black-Breasted Red Phoenix for my wife, and if I win the lottery I'd love some Swedish Flower Hens and Lemon Cuckoo Orpingtons.

They need a cure for this chicken thang... got over three hundred and wanting more... oh well, I don't drink, do drugs or gamble - guess everyone needs at least one bad habit.

What bloodlines of Orloff are you working with now? Unfortunately, I'm limiting myself to people that will ship chicks. After watching a friend pay over $75 for failed hatching eggs to get ONE spangled orloff chick (it was supposed to be Mahogany) I've decided not to mess with them. You should check in to the Orloff thread. I'd like to hear more about your experiences. Not enough people talking about the Orloffs!

Our line originally came from a breeder in Iowa, I've heard they are the same stock as Welp's (25 we ordered from Welp's, the rest from a nearby Iowa breeder). They are beautiful, gentle birds, but terribly inbreed (Lots of crooked beaks, star-gazing, etc.) and most don't stand as upright as the standard calls for. A few have white legs instead of yellow, and I culled a few for having combs that had a tiny spike. Overall, I love them and the eye color, spangling, and the overall "Look" is great! I just want to cross in another line to build on. We started with 103 chicks this year and I've already culled down to 20, will most likely keep only around 10 - 12 of those after the final round of culling. But then I am picky when it comes to my chickens.
I don't ship and only sell our chickens locally, but would be happy to help anyone else get started in these beautiful birds. I haven't seen any others since I was a kid, I thought they had all died out until a few years ago when I saw some online. This is my first year raising them, so won't be selling any Orloffs for at least a few years. I'll have to get them where I want them before I sell any. I've been burned too many times to do it to anyone else.
I do need to check out the Orloffs thread. I'm not online much during the winter due to work, but would be nice to see what others are doing with them.
