What's the best breed of chicken for eggs and pets?

I had four silkies and I spent as much time as I could with them as chicks but as soon as they got out to the coop all of them except one just never liked me very much they where very skittish and I don't under stand why? But I would definitely say silkies are a very good choice for being docile one of my roosters just sat and let me pet him. ( I have also heard great stories about them) but I'm not sure about the egg laying because mine where all roosters!
