I didn't know that about Wazine. What would you recommend then? I just bought some to worm the silkies I bought at a poultry show, but I don't want to give it to them if it contaminates them permanently...

you cannot eat meat or eggs that came from a bird given wazine.
Wazine is a pig wormer that is used for turkeys and chickens. The eggs and birds can be eaten. I usually go 30 days. Please do not say "ever again," because 1000's of pigs, turkeys and chickens have been given this throughout the country. If it made the animal where you could not eat the meat, it would not be on the market. A lot of people believe in DE. I happen to use Wazine. It is cheaper and you only worm twice a year. No problems.
last time i read the wazine bottle it did not have a withdrawl time for chickens, i use it on pigs, but it doesnt say anything about chickens, so i dont ttrust it for them.

We might not be talking about the same thing. The Wazine I am talking about comes in a white bottle with blue lettering. You withdraw water from the animal you are worming, then add it to their water. They will then drink the worm medicine. By usda standards if there are illeffects of the product it must be listed. I will not eat the eggs if I intibiotic them or worm them for 30 days. Whether it says to or not. Wazine is not unsafe to use.
Please don't worm your chickens "just for the heck of it" or "once a year whether they need it or not". If you suspect worms, have a fecal float done, find out if they really need worming, and pick the correct medicine for that worm. Unless you see one in their poo and it is really obvious. There are people on BYC who have never wormed their chickens. It can be hard on them, as well as contaminating eggs and meat. If everyone uses medicine when it is not necessary, it will not work as well when it is really needed (organisms develop resistance).

Sound advice. A fecal float should not cost more than $15 and is highly reccommended. The fewer medications, the better for your chickens and you.
Warning
Do not medicate prior to slaughter as follows: Turkeys - 14 days, Chickens - 14 days, Swine - 21 days.
Do not use in chickens producing eggs for human consumption.
